Giving & Receiving Feedback by Bush Hartshorn

The three-day workshop Giving & Receiving Feedback, led by community artist, dramaturge and dance artists' mentor/coach Bush Hartshorn, is addressed to professional dancers, dance students, choreographers, amateur dancers, actors and actresses, but also writers, teachers and critics.

The workshop will cover an introduction to the basic principles of Nonviolent Communication (NVC) and Neuro-linguistic Programming (NLP), which can be applied in many scenarios (both personal and professional), as well as an introduction and practice in one shared feedback methodology based on Liz Lerman's Critical Response Process.

The workshop aims to increase awareness of the above principles' potential contribution to the artists' personal development and suggest the circumstances in which it is advisable to employ such practices. Additional outcomes of the workshop may include: increased creative clarity and confidence, a broader sense of purpose and responsibility, and a greater collective awareness.

According to Bush, the workshop works best when it is used as an "intervention in the making process"; hence, all participants are encouraged to bring in something on which they wish to receive feedback, e.g. some movement material, an idea, a written text, etc.
